With the Easy-Laser® Linebore system you measure straightness of cam and crankshaft bearing journals, with a resolution of 0.001 mm [0.05 mils] and a maximum distance of 40 m [132 feet]. Both open and closed journals can be measured, as well as journals with different diameters. Regardless of the engine design, the measurement is done very fast.

Measuring the position of the journals
The laser transmitter is mounted (with magnets) axially at the end of the engine. With its built-in offset hub the direction of the laser beam is easily fine adjusted. Then the detector is placed in the journals and values are recorded in each. The result of the measurement displays the position of the journals in vertical and horizontal direction, compared to two zero points (references). These can be any two of the journals, and can be altered to calculate minimum tooling work. The result is displayed both digitally and graphically, and can be transferred to a PC for documentation or further analyse.

Other applications for engine manufacurers
Other applications for engine manufacurers are for example flatness on parting surfaces, squareness for cylinder bores, shaft alignment when mounting the drive line.
