/ Applications /  Parallelism

Examples of parallelism measurements is rolls and other parts of machines in the pulp and paper industry, steel mills, on printing presses, rail, press machine tables etc.

Parallelism measurement with Angular prism
The laser beam is directed along the machine, but perpendicular to the measurement object. The beam is then deviated 90° by an angular prism. With this principle it is possible to measure a large number of objects by moving the prism along the machine in the laser beam direction. The detector (for example mounted on a magnet base) is placed at both ends of the measurement object. The result of the measurement shows the squareness of the objects compared to the reference (base) line or one of the objects.

Parallelism measurement without Angular prism
Parallelism measurements for rolls or other machine parts can also be done without a prism, with only a detector and a lasertransmitter where the beam is directed parallel to the measurement objects. We use two rolls as example. The detector is placed at the front end of roll 1 and is zeroed at the display unit. Then move the detector to the other end of the roll and read the value. Move the detector to the front end of roll 2. Zero set. Move the detector to the other end of roll 2 and read the value. The difference between the two measurement values is the parallel error for roll 1 and 2.
